How to Prepare for Your Tarot Party

You booked a tarot reader for your event – now what do you need to know to prep?

This article will give you the necessary information to prepare for your next tarot party. Share this with your planner and the other partygoers so everyone is on the same page and ready to make the most of the magic.

Set the Space

For in-person tarot events, carve out a space for the tarot reader to do individual readings. A tarot reader will typically be on one side of a table with a chair across it. For group events, you’ll want this table set a little bit further from where the group will hang out so you can have a bit of privacy in the readings (and also make sure you can hear the tarot reader if there’s noise!).

For virtual events, you’ll be over zoom, so just make sure you’re in a comfortable position with wifi and you should be good to go.

Add Decor

Create the mood of the house! Bring out the candles and incense (and even crystals if you have them!). While this isn’t necessary by any means, tarot is an opportunity to tune inward and enter a reflective and spiritual space, so it’s nice to set the stage for what’s to come and help you make that energetic transition.

Your tarot reader will also bring any props they like to have with them during readings, so if you don’t have anything, no need to sweat it! Oftentimes this may be fabric for the table, crystals, or even a bowl of water (for energy clearing / connection).

We’ve seen some group events where the group creates a whole ‘cosmic’ or ‘magical’ theme of the event. Witches brew, potions, essential oils -- whatever else you can dream of!

Ask a Question

In a tarot reading, you can ask the cards a question on an area you’re hoping to receive guidance, or you can also let the reader do a more general energy reading for you. The key to asking these questions is making them open-ended. That means instead of asking “Will I get this promotion?”, you can ask “How can I grow my career?”

Keep the questions focused on you. Similar to manifesting, you can’t really manifest for anyone else. This is your individual time, so use it!

Common areas people ask questions are on career, family, relationships, or anything else going on in your life where you’d like to tap into the mystical and receive some intuitive wisdom.

Below are a few starting tarot card questions. Take a look, and see what types of questions are calling you!

  • What do I need to know/change right now about myself or this situation?

  • What is the biggest obstacle that stands in my way right now?

  • What lesson do I need to learn to overcome my challenges?

  • What is the biggest influence in my life right now?

  • What are my greatest strengths or weaknesses?

  • What should I be focusing on right now?

  • What stands in the way of me finding love?

  • How can I strengthen the relationship between me and my partner?

  • How can I best overcome this issue in my relationship?

  • What connects us in this relationship?

  • What career or line of work will be the most fulfilling for me?

  • What blocks me from achieving my full potential?

  • When is the right time to make a career change?
