NYC Travel Recommendations:

If it was someone’s FIRST time in NYC - what are your top 3 ‘must-see’ things?

From Alexis: “New York City has a way of capturing hearts, and I vividly remember the first time I set foot in the bustling streets of the Big Apple. The energy, the diversity, and the iconic landmarks left an indelible mark on my memory. While limiting the must-see list to just three things seems nearly impossible, there are certain experiences that stand out as quintessentially New York. Join me on a journey through the city that stole my heart:

Begin your NYC adventure with a leisurely walk along Fifth Avenue, the epitome of sophistication and luxury. As you head north towards Central Park, marvel at the iconic storefronts, from high-end fashion boutiques to historic landmarks. The street pulses with an energy that is uniquely New York. Soon, the urban landscape gives way to the lush expanse of Central Park, a sprawling oasis in the heart of Manhattan. Take a leisurely stroll through the winding paths, soak in the serene atmosphere of the Bethesda Terrace, and marvel at the beauty that coexists with the city's skyscrapers.

No visit to NYC is complete without immersing yourself in the cultural riches housed within the walls of The Met. As you step into this world-renowned museum, prepare to be captivated by an extraordinary collection of art spanning centuries and continents. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary masterpieces, The Met is a treasure trove of creativity. Take your time wandering through the halls, but be sure not to miss the grandeur of the Egyptian Temple of Dendur or the timeless beauty of the Met Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park.

Conclude your first-time NYC experience with a visit to the top of the Empire State Building, an iconic symbol of the city's skyline. As you ascend to the observation deck, be prepared to witness breathtaking panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. The city lights, the silhouette of skyscrapers, and the endless horizon create a mesmerizing view. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the experience is nothing short of magical.” ~Alexis

From Selena: “Walk the Dumbo Waterfront. For added fun, take the ferry from downtown Manhattan or Williamsburg to Dumbo. You'll get great views of the city and a fun way to see New York. Once in Dumbo, walk along the waterfront park.  Plus, there's an amazing hole-in-the-wall noodle spot for lunch called Lucky Rabbit that's to die for.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It really is special, and the atrium room is so beautiful overlooking Central Park. But choose your top 3 exhibits and stick to them... the MET is massive and can get incredibly overwhelming and exhausting if you try and do it all!

Food on the go... a slice of pizza (Joe's is the best), a bodega sandwich (think morning handover egg sandwich from any corner store with a grill - egg & cheese on a roll is a good place to start!), a bagel and coffee... these foods are meant to be eaten on the go and are New York staples!

The 9-11 Memorial Museum. It might not sound like the most fun or uplifting, but it's beautifully done, incredibly powerful, and hugely informational. I finally went after 8 years of living in NY and regretted not going sooner. “

From Rachel: Times Square is a must because it's truly the most iconic NYC spot, Washington Square Park because it's a space where a million and one things happen and each moment, each day invites a new energy and is truly unique to the fabric of NYC * a space to come and be as you are while also being a part of the community*, and last thing can be done in so many places but going to a rooftop anywhere you can find one *loads of restaurants, bars, or even the top of the Empire State building* and getting a look at THE Skyline from up above - it is truly something to behold.” ~Rachel

From Caroll:

Explore Central Park. I grew up near the 66 Street entrance so I would recommend entering there. You’ll walk by the famous, “Tavern on the Green” and straight in front of this iconic restaurant is the Great Lawn. If it’s the weekend and summertime you’ll get to witness locals roller skating and dancing to the classics on the other side of the lawn. Super good vibes!

A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Where you’ll get great views of Manhattan and Brooklyn, I recommend doing this early in the day as it does get filled with people later in the day.

The High Line with really great views of the city. While in Chelsea visited some of the art galleries. Some of my favorite galleries in Chelsea at the moment are David Zwirner, Hauser & Wirth, and Kurimanzutto which has recently arrived from Mexico City with deep roots there.

Favorite way to unwind in the city?

“I really love going to Bathhouse in Williamsburg for a spa day. You can book a service and spend the day, or just book a day pass and enjoy the saunas, cold plunge, steam rooms, and pools. There's a nice bar and restaurant for light treats post-relaxation :)  I recommend going on a weekday if possible - it can get rather busy on the weekends - and be sure to make a reservation ahead!” ~Selena

“Cutting through Chelsea and just walking along the water on the West Side of Manhattan - there is something incredibly peaceful & calming to remind yourself that this incredible city is really an island surrounded by water.” ~Rachel

“We’re all familiar with the term Hot Girl Walk but let me introduce you to the New Yorker’s version – the West Side Highway Walk! Walking the West Side Highway is more than just a stroll; it's a sensory experience that offers a break from the relentless pace of everyday NYC life. The tranquility of the Hudson River, the beauty of sunsets and sunrises, the green spaces, and the blend of urban and natural elements make this scenic route a cherished escape for those seeking solace in the heart of the city. I love to lace up my Nikes, put in my airpods, and embrace the riverside breeze for 1-2 miles on a sunny weekend morning. The view across the water, especially during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset, is nothing short of breathtaking. The city's iconic skyline provides a stunning backdrop, offering a unique perspective that contrasts with the bustling energy of Midtown.” ~Alexis

“After a demanding day in the hustle and bustle of NYC, my preferred method of unwinding involves a leisurely stroll to the serene Hudson Yards. There, I indulge in some takeout delights and make a pit stop at Chelsea Piers, where I find solace in the rhythmic flow of the Hudson River. The picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for unwinding, offering amazing spots to picnic with friends and family while soaking in the breathtaking views of the city.” ~Lumi

Bathhouse in Williamsburg- located at 103 N 10th St

Where are some of your favorite wellness hotspots in the city?

“Tucked away in the heart of NoHo, FaceGym stands out as a wellness hotspot that redefines the traditional spa experience. Instead of the typical serene and hushed atmosphere, FaceGym buzzes with energy and excitement. The concept is simple yet groundbreaking – treat your face like a muscle that needs a workout. It's not just about skincare; it's a comprehensive approach to facial fitness. The innovative approach at FaceGym involves a series of facial workouts, led by skilled trainers who guide you through a regimen designed to tone and lift your facial muscles. From sculpting massages to electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) techniques, each workout is tailored to address specific concerns and enhance the natural contours of your face. The result? A lifted, toned, and rejuvenated complexion that radiates a healthy glow.” ~Alexis

Each visit is a holistic journey, catering to both physical and mental well-being, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a diverse range of wellness experiences.” ~Lumi

Maha Rose in Columbia Heights in Brooklyn for sound baths, meditations, breathwork. This is such a great place with a beautiful community.

Elements in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn for massage, acupuncture, facials, and infrared sauna. I have gotten great massages here and some acupuncture while I was pregnant. I highly recommend this place.

Russian/Turkish Baths in Manhattan for saunas, steam rooms, massage. I love how raw and simple this place remains to be after all these years.” ~Caroll

Aire Ancient Baths- located at 88 Franklin St

“Definitely Aire Ancient Baths in Tribeca - it's a truly transcendent experience that makes you feel like you're portalling into another world or another time even. It's a deeply spiritual experience and an absolute must to add to your list of things to do on your NYC vacation and is great solo, with a partner, or with your besties! Also, stop by Magic Jewelry in Chinatown for an Aura Photo before or after your Aire Spa experience that's just a few minutes walk away!” ~Rachel

Favorite restaurants?

Cervos - Located at 43 Canal St

“I'm going to give you a completely off-the-tourist track list of my favorites... most are in Brooklyn. You're welcome :)

Leo Pizza or Ops -- same owners, sourdough crust, natural wines, delicious

Cervos in LES -- sexy playlists, salty Peruvian menu, and martinis to die for. Great for a date or small friend catch-up. If there's a wait, grab a drink at LeDive a few doors down.

Kings County Imperial -- Sichuan food. Great for bigger groups, come with a hearty appetite. Order a Mezcal Negroni. I prefer the Williamsburg location.

Colonia Verde --- Everybody goes to Fort Greene, BK for Miss Ada or Romans, but Colonia Verde is a neighborhood spot serving South American food with good cocktails, great wines, and friendly staff. I always have a nice time here. You can start at Rhodora Wine Bar for a pre-dinner drink or even end your night here for a candle-lit nightcap.” ~Selena

Brunch at Palma located at 28 Cornelia St

“Hands down Palma - mouth-watering food, incredible drinks & the ambience is incredibly intimate & charming *very Libran vibes*” ~Rachel

“When it comes to dining in the city, Planta Queen stands out as my top go-to spot for both lunch and dinner with friends. As a sushi enthusiast, I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse and delectable offerings on their menu. Even for those not exclusively plant-based, the culinary delights at Planta Queen are sure to captivate the taste buds. It's a culinary experience that seamlessly blends innovation, flavor, and a vibrant atmosphere, making it a must-visit for any discerning food enthusiast.” ~Lumi

Where do you go when you want to be a little witchy?

“In the bustling heart of New York City's West Village, amidst the eclectic bars and trendy boutiques, lies a hidden gem that caters to those seeking a touch of the mystical and a respite from the daily grind. Stick, Stone, and Bone is not just a shop; it's a haven for those who are looking to embrace their inner witchiness. Specializing in rare gemstones, high-quality incense, sacred herbs, and energy-elevating candles, this mystical boutique has become my sanctuary whenever I need to reconnect with spirit. Stick, Stone, and Bone has become a place where I can replenish my supplies, discover new treasures, and bask in the enchanting energy that permeates every corner. I recommend their sage and crystal” ~Alexis

“When the mood strikes for a touch of magic, my go-to destination is the Lower East Side, where Enchantments beckons with its mystical offerings. Here, I procure anointing oils that seamlessly complement my astrology readings. Additionally, a visit to Flower Power allows me to curate personalized tea blends, adding a magical touch to my spiritual practice. Both establishments provide a haven for those seeking to infuse a bit of magic into their daily lives.” ~Lumi
